Max Landis: Maybe HBO’s Confederate Isn’t A Good Idea

As today’s white supremacist protests in Virginia hold the world’s attention, filmmaker and comic book writer Max Landis has been following along and making introspective comments like this one:

being jewish is so weird
to people of color, you’re white
but to some white people YOU ARE DEFINITELY NOT

— Max Landis (@Uptomyknees) August 12, 2017

And this:

It’s been going on for a minute.
People pretend the jews control the world like we’re dark side illuminati jedi.

And this line of thought, along with the violence at the protests…

Someone just ran over a bunch of people protesting the racism in Charlottesville. NSFW, but worth seeing to understand.

…has led Landis to another observation:

You know, on second thought, maybe Confederate ISN’T a good idea for a TV show?

— Max Landis (@Uptomyknees) August 12, 2017

HBO recently announced the alt-history drama Confederate, which is set in a fractured United States where there have been multiple Civil Wars and slavery is still legal, helmed by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss along with Nichelle Tramble Spellman and Malcolm Spellman. Since then, the show has been met with protest from viewers concerned the show could inspire real-life white supremacists to even bolder acts of violence. HBO has responded to the protests, asking fans to “reserve judgement.”

It looks like Landis may have decided not to wait. After seeing today’s events unfold, where do you stand? Let us know in the sure-to-be-civil (like a war) comment section.
