Girlfriend acts like an 80 year old woman

Dear Brenda,

I'm in a predicament here with my girlfriend. Been dating for approximately 5 months and everything is great with one exception.... she acts like an old woman. It's hard to explain this, but her mannerisms, grooming techniques, speech patterns and in some ways how she interacts with me.... at times I think I'm with my 79 year old aunt. It is a very, very big turn off and at times is repulsive... I'm at a loss as to what to do about this...

P.S. I noticed/became aware of this ...say about 2 months in....

Dear Chuckiebaby,

Some people just have certain mannerisms. I think it would be a difficult one to approach, because you might be trying to change something that isn't changeable, as it could be just a part of who she is. What you could do is to ask her what about you she would change, if she could. That might get that conversation started in a positive way. :-) Remember, if you do ask her to modify something about herself to make you happy, be willing to do the same for her, and make sure you suggest it in a very non threatening way (after you've given her some compliments). Treat her as you would want her to treat you, if the situation were reversed. Good luck!
