How much is too much after a first date?

Dear Brenda,

I have known this girl for a few months through a friend but we finally hung out one night and had our first "official" date this weekend. The thing is, since the first time I laid eyes on her, I have been in love with her. I think the date went pretty well, but I need to know for sure. This is the first time I’ve dated a girl and thought that this is the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. I don't want to mess this up. I would be crushed if I did. Any advice would help. I was thinking of sending her flowers. Is it too soon for that? Please respond ASAP. Thanks.

If you're that crazy about her, then all you can do is to be yourself, and enjoy the time you spend with her. Why do you need to know for sure so quickly how things went? Be a little patient and relax. If you're so worried that you’re going to mess things up, then you probably might. You wouldn't want to date a girl who was so nervous that she couldn’t just relax and be herself, would you? If you ask her out again and she says yes, then you have your answer. She's interested.

Be careful, though. Try not to overdo it. I think flowers are nice and super romantic, but she would probably feel more comfortable accepting them if she knew you better. A gift of flowers from someone we barely know might come off as a bit much. Receiving flowers from someone we’ve been dating for a while, though, is a very nice touch. Keep it simple for now, you don't want to overwhelm her. Keep a bit of mystery. We love that.
