Profile DON'Ts!
If you keep up with the helpful advice tidbits in our newsletter, you know the importance of having a good photo on your profile. But wait, there’s more. Now it’s time to work on your essay. Although that word causes considerable wailing and gnashing of teeth from those still suffering from high school hangovers, you need to realize that an essay is just as important as your photo when it comes to attracting potential dates.
Perhaps the most important thing to remember when composing your essay is to stay POSITIVE. Nothing says “I have more issues than a magazine stand” like negativity. You know what we’re talking about. You've read plenty of profiles where people state in upper caps: “NO LIARS, GAME PLAYERS, CHEATERS, SMOKERS, DRUNKS, etc.”
The sad thing is that people who have been burned on several occasions are usually the ones who feel compelled to say what they don't want in a partner. And more likely than not, they tend to wind up with the exact type of people they’re trying to avoid.
The other big mistake people often make is not using their spell checkers. This isn't a big issue for everyone, but you should still make an effort to properly put your essay together. Besides spell checking it in your word processor, make sure your punctuation is in good shape and more importantly, do not TYPE IN ALL CAPS. Not only is it hard on the reader’s eyes, it’s seen as YELLING in Internet lingo.
